This supplement shows kids how to mine newspaper stories, ads, photos and headlines for writing ideas weird plots, unsolved mysteries, unusual characters and settings. North Carolina’s state Department of Education recommended that this tab be distributed to every student in the state!
Sample Newspaper Activity
In today’s newspaper, find a close-up photo of a face that interests you because of its beauty, unattractiveness, anger, sadness, good humor, or other special qualities. Describe that face as though you were meeting the subject for the first time. Give the person a name that would fit the face.
